Annulment

Unlike divorce, an annulment doesn't end a marriage — it declares that the marriage was never legally valid to begin with. In Arizona, the Court must find that a specific impediment existed at the time of the marriage in order to adjudge it “null and void.” Annulments are granted at the Court's discretion, and not every case that meets one of the grounds below is guaranteed approval.

GROUNDS FOR ANNULMENT MAY INCLUDE

• A blood relationship between the parties
• A prior marriage that was not dissolved before the current marriage took place
• One party being underage at the time of marriage
• Failure to consummate the marriage
• Mental or physical incapacitation of one party
• Intoxication of one party at the time of marriage
• One party acting under duress
